Young adults

Almost half of all young adults report some kind of mental health symptoms. So even if it sometimes feels like it’s just you, you’re far from alone. Young adulthood can be a lot to handle. You’re busy trying to discover who you are, on your terms, and what that means for your future. Meanwhile, you also have to worry about juggling your education, finding and keeping jobs, managing bills, and forming new relationships. Then on top of all that, many young adults have unresolved past traumas which can significantly complicate all of this.

And as if that weren’t enough, young adult brains are still developing well into your twenties: constantly “rewiring” itself, trying to make new connections while pruning some of the old ones. It can feel like you’re constantly trying to change the tires on a car that’s still driving down the highway: really overwhelming, exhausting, and seemingly futile at times. This can turn into feelings of loneliness, sadness, isolation, and even hopelessness when it gets to be too much.

We offer a free phone consultation to talk with a therapist about the struggles of being a young adult you may be experiencing. You’ll decide together which of our staff therapists might be best able to help.

Willow & Arbor provides counseling and related psychotherapy services for young adults throughout the Tri-Cities (Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol) and surrounding region including neighboring towns like Jonesborough and Elizabethton.

At Willow and Arbor, your comfort, feelings of safety, and need for privacy are very important to us. You can choose to meet either in-person at our Johnson City office; or, if it’s more comfortable and convenient, you can choose to be at home with our online therapy sessions.

Contact us to reach one of our therapists about where you are as a young adult right now and how you get to where you want to be.
